Appuntamento ai Marinai recounts the experience of the Second Generation immigrants of Eritrean origin born or arrived to Italy between the late ’70s and early’ 80s, especially in Milan.

This documentary wants to be an intermediary arranging an appointment, where more elements may find and discover themselves: the past and the present, places, pictures, experiences, stories and people.

Hence why a rendezvous in Largo Marinai d’Italia, to meet and get to know the characters with their stories; through an audio visual work set to improve the understanding of the reality of foreign communities living in Italy for almost half a century, like the Eritrean one.

Largo Marina d’Italia is more than just a park; it is the place where many Eritrean youths spend their free time, meeting friends, relaxing and playing sport. For decades it has been the meeting point for Eritrean youths in Milan and continues to be so.

Largo Marina d’Italia is a place where the prejudices and everyday problems facing Italy and its migrant community fade away, encouraging multiculturalism and integration.

Appuntamento ai Marinai has already been screened in New York (Columbia University), London (SOAS University) and in other prestigious universities around the world. Appuntamento ai Marinai aims to tell about a phenomenon where may diasporas around the world can find themselves and how they deal with their new countries.
